Jacquelyn Poteet, MA, LMFT-S

Jacquelyn Poteet is a state licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and licensed Supervisor.  Jacquelyn graduated from the University of Houston-Clear Lake in 2000 with her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and then received her Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2005. As a mental health professional, Jacquelyn has acquired over 11 years of counseling experience working in diverse settings, including private practice, schools, governmental agencies, a residential treatment facility for adolescents, non-profit organizations, and community mental health agencies.  The diversity of Jacquelyn’s professional experiences and specialized training, coupled with her personal testimony of survival from a life threatening infection, have afforded her the unique ability to genuinely relate, and competently address, a multitude of challenges being faced by individuals today. Some of those challenges include issues associate with couples and families, including marital conflict, infidelity, parenting, divorce, and blended family issues.  Jacquelyn has received extensive training in various trauma-focused models including TF-CBT. Jacquelyn is passionate about her work with trauma survivors and has confidence in human nature’s capacity for resilience. Through her professional and personal experiences in working with teens and parenting teens, Jacquelyn has developed a specialization and an investment in treating adolescents who are exhibiting high-risk behaviors, including self-harm and suicidal ideation, in response to challenges associated with depression, anxiety, and/or trauma.   Jacquelyn has received specialized disaster mental health training through FEMA and has led crisis counseling responses to three federally declared major disasters. Jacquelyn has spoken at the Multi-County Interagency Coalition Against Sexual Assault conference and has been recognized for her contribution to the organization.
